	I began songwriting in college in 1993. My songwriting was born out of a frustration of not being able to sing most of the material from my favorite artists when I would sit down at the piano, on account of them all being tenors. Since nobody was really writing music with basses in mind, I gave it a shot. My first attempt actually resulted in an eight part “a capella” choral piece, but eventually I figured out how to write for one voice! My first decade of writing was all for me – to try to find my songwriting voice while experimenting with lots of different styles. In late 2003, however, I began approaching songwriting as a profession, by writing for the commercial marketplace and for other people’s voices. Specifically, I’m writing for the country genre because I’ve always loved the storytelling and the wordplay that are its hallmarks.
